After yesterday’s reveal of the future for the DC Cinematic Universe over the next four years, many were curious as to certain omissions from the schedule. With no Batman solo movie and no hint of Martian Manhunter being included in JUSTICE LEAGUE, many felt that maybe the slate was bogus. Another reveal came today that may lend a little more creedence to that outline and it comes in the form of two roles.
Jeff Sneider of The Wrap tweeted the following screenshot of a casting agency’s grid for open roles in the JUSTICE LEAGUE film. Granted, casting calls are not the be all end all for a movie’s plot or final structure, but take a look at the names on it.

If Martian Manhunter is in fact in JUSTICE LEAGUE, it is not far of a leap to consider the possible appearance of Darkseid. Darkseid is a Thanos/Galactus level villain and one of the biggest foes in all of DC Comics. Bringing him into the mix would be a huge decision and would present a foe that would warrant heroes like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter coming together for battle.
The other character listed, Max Lord, is best known as a villain but could also be set up, similarly to Sinestro in the GREEN LANTERN film, as the force behind the creation of the Justice League before turning into a full bad guy. He also could provide an alternative human villain to Lex Luthor (human depending on which continuity you follow). If this listing is any indicator, Max Lord may be the primary antagonist in JUSTICE LEAGUE with Darkseid teased for a future film.
There is no indicator from Sneider which site this casting notice comes from, but it does seem to fit in with all of the buzz floating around. I would say we really need to wait until Comic Con next month to be sure.
JUSTICE LEAGUE is slated to hit theaters in 2017.
