Over two years ago we told you about the Lionsgate/ Twisted Pictures collaboration CATACOMBS, a horror flick from the studios that gave us SAW starring hottie Shannyn Sossamon and the pop star Pink. Shoot to present day, 2 SAW movies later, and still no CATACOMBS. What the hell happened to it? Why did it disappear? Questions, questions, questions…
Well today, we have some answers… er, sort of. The trailer for CATACOMBS popped up on YouTube and can be seen in all of it’s glory below. Since ya’ll probably don’t remember, CATACOMBS tells the story of a young woman on her first visit abroad. She goes to a party in the Catacombs, a 200-mile labyrinth of ancient limestone tunnels under Paris lined with the remains of 7 million people. When separated from her friends, she becomes convinced that someone or something is chasing her.
For some reason, going to a rave in an underground tomb to millions of dead bodies just doesn’t sound like a good idea… but then again, the situations most folks in horror movies get themselves into never sound like good ideas. The trailer actually doesn’t look bad, playing up the claustrophobia card like it’s going out of style. If they released it when they were first done with it, the idea might have been fresh, but with movies like THE DESCENT and CREEP already touching on this same idea… well, it no longer seems ‘fresh’ as it could have.
No word on whether it’ll finally be released theatrically or STD, or even when they’re looking to release it, so stick around for that. In the mean time, check out the trailer below, and click HERE to check out a boatload of new images.
