Last month, we reported that The Orchard had picked up the distribution rights to the horror anthology SOUTHBOUND with the aim of releasing it sometime in the first half of 2016. Their plan has now been solidified with release dates: SOUTHBOUND will have a limited theatrical release beginning on Friday, February 5, 2016, and the film will hit VOD the following Tuesday, February 9.
SOUTHBOUND re-teams V/H/S producer Brad Miska with several of his V/H/S collaborators, with the anthology's segments being directed by David Bruckner (the "Amateur Night" segment of V/H/S), Radio Silence ("10/31/98"), and Miska's fellow producer Roxanne Benjamin. New to the fold is Patrick Horvath, who has previously directed the films DIE-NER (GET IT?), ENTRANCE, and THE PACT II.
SOUTHBOUND has the following synopsis:
Five intertwining tales of terror unfold along an endless desert highway. On a desolate stretch of road, weary travelers — two men on the run from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation — are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in these interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road.
While I haven't enjoyed the V/H/S films all that much, I'm always up for checking out a new horror anthology, and the fact that SOUTHBOUND doesn't use the found footage format already gives it a better chance of appealing to me than this team's previous collaboration did.
