Chaos Walking: Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley film has been delayed again

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Chaos Walking, Lionsgate's adaptation of the Patrick Ness novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, has just hit another bump on its long, winding road to the screen. Once scheduled to reach theatres on March 1, 2019, Chaos Walking was filmed in 2017 with Doug Liman at the helm. After poor test screenings in 2018, the studio pushed the release back to January 22, 2021 and brought in Fede Alvarez to direct reshoots that took place a year and a half after Liman's shoot had wrapped. We finally got to see a trailer for the film last month – but it's not going to make that January 22 release date.

Still aiming for a theatrical release, Chaos Walking is now scheduled to make its way out into the world on March 5, 2021. Two years and four days after the first release date.

Ness wrote the screenplay adaptation with Christopher Ford. Starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, the film is set

in the not so distant future and follows Todd Hewitt (Holland) as he discovers Viola, a girl (Ridley) who mysteriously crash lands on his planet. The terrain, curiously, is completely void of women, while the men are affected by “the Noise” — a force that puts all their thoughts on display. As Todd promises to protect Viola from harm, he uncovers his inner abilities and discovers his planet’s dark secrets.

Mads Mikkelsen, Demian Bichir, Kurt Sutter, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, David Oyelowo, and Oscar Jaenada are also in the cast.

The making of Chaos Walking has certainly lived up to the title. I hope the movie will turn out to be worth all the trouble.
