Charlie’s Angels reboot casts Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott & Ella Balinska

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Sony Pictures has finally confirmed the cast of their CHARLIE’S ANGELS reboot set to be helmed by THE HUNGER GAMES and PITCH PERFECT alum Elizabeth Banks. Now set to play the crime-fighting trifecta are Kristen Stewart (TWILIGHT, AMERICAN ULTRA), Naomi Scott (POWER RANGERS, Disney’s ALADDIN), and British actress Ella Balinska (TV’s MIDSOMER MURDERS, A MODERN TALE). In addition to serving as the film’s director, Banks will also play the role of Bosley, the Angel’s point of contact for all of their exciting assignments. Jay Basu and Banks wrote the script based on earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Semi Chellas.

Originally, CHARLIE’S ANGELS was a television crime drama that ran from 1976-1981 starring Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith. The show featured all three ladies getting into some pretty outrageous super spy scenarios, with each mission curiously calling for them to often wear as little as possible to complete the job. Later in the year 2000, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu starred in an on-screen reboot of the CHARLIE’S ANGELS brand for director McG. The ladies then reprised their roles for the 2003 sequel, CHARLIE’S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE.

Banks’ reboot will find the three badass agents embarking on a new mission for The Townsend Agency, whose ever-increasing client base has called for the organization to go global, providing security and intelligence services to a variety of private clients with offices and highly trained teams worldwide. When the film arrives in theaters, it will focus primarily on the team featuring the above mentioned talent, obviously. Today’s casting confirmations are a major step for the reboot, which is expected to move into production in the coming months.

Are you down for a reboot of CHARLIE’S ANGELS? With films like ATOMIC BLONDE, RED SPARROW, and OCEANS 8 doing much to place female masterminds in the spotlight, who’s to say that this won’t be a smash hit for the genre? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
