In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, we dig into one of the biggest shows of the seventies, Charlie’s Angels. While it’s easy to roll your eyes at the property given all of the failed sequels and reboots to the wildly successful 2000 film starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, it turns out the original show by Aaron Spelling is something of a gem. We dig into this classic show, which made Farrah Fawcett a pin-up icon, and also starred Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith (and later Cheryl Ladd and the late Tanya Roberts) and the voice of John Forsythe as the never seen Charlie.

Indeed, Charlie’s Angels is a much better show than a lot of people remember. For one thing, the mysteries were often quite good, and some of the episode premises were downright iconic, such as when the angels went undercover in prison. A lot of big stars showed up in early episodes, including Tommy Lee Jones in the pilot, Kim Basinger, and even Timothy Dalton in a special Las Vegas episode that hinted at a certain superspy he’s play a few years down the road. In this episode, we dig into the basis of the show as well as some of the behind the scenes drama, which led to Fawcett leaving the show after a single season, while Jackson would also leave, with Smith the only constant member of the titular trio.
