Check out Wolverine’s new uniform in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Before you wet yourselves, it is not the iconic yellow costume that was teased in a deleted scene from James Mangold‘s THE WOLVERINE. While fans wait with bated breath to see Hugh Jackman don the immortal costume from the pages of the X-Men comic books, director Bryan Singer is dressing Logan in new duds in the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and they are different than what we have seen and yet still the same.

In keeping with the utilitarian costumes we have seen in the alternate future timeline of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, this cover to French movie magazine shows us an obscured look at Wolverine’s future outfit. Check it out below.

As you can see, it harkens back to the black leather outfits that earned Bryan Singer the ire of fanboys worldwide from the first X-MEN movie. While it still doesn’t look very Wolverine to me, it is better than the costume he used to wear. My biggest concern is that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to be a more grim film, visually, and dressing everyone in black won’t make for a very engaging 3D experience when the film hits theaters.

I am going to hold out hope that with Bryan Singer and possibly Hugh Jackman coming back for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE that we will finally get Logan dressed in something more akin to the comics. At the very least the sequel to THE WOLVERINE will continue to show us the true capabilities of the character on the big screen.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
