Curse of Chucky

For months, CHILD'S PLAY franchise creator Don Mancini has been using social media to tease the fact that he was nearing production on a seventh installment in the series. It was clear that the killer doll Chucky would soon be returning, we've just been waiting for an official announcement. That announcement was finally made this morning through Entertainment Weekly.

Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, has revealed that filming on the sequel CULT OF CHUCKY will begin in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada next Monday, January 9th.

Brad Dourif will once again be providing the voice of Chucky, and joining him in the cast are fellow returning franchise stars Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, and Jennifer Tilly.

CULT OF CHUCKY catches up with Fiona Dourif's character Nica Pierce, who was introduced in CURSE OF CHUCKY,

at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when Nica's psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic "tool" to facilitate his patients' group sessions — an all-too-familiar "Good Guy" doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn't crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Vincent), Chucky's now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child's Play, races to Nica's aid. But to save her he'll have to get past Tiffany (Tilly), Chucky's long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.

Don Mancini is directing the film from his own screenplay and also serves as executive producer. The film is being produced by David Kirschner and Ogden Gavanski. Tony Gardner is associate producing as well as heading up the special effects team. Also on the crew are director of photography Michael Marshall, production designer Craig Sandells, and costume designer Patricia J. Henderson.

As part of this announcement, Universal cut together a trailer that takes a look back at the previous films while letting us know that Chucky's back. Don't expect to see any new footage in there, since CULT OF CHUCKY hasn't started filming yet.

CULT OF CHUCKY will be receiving an unrated release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD this fall, just in time for Halloween.

Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President at Universal 1440 Entertainment, had this to say about the project:

It's hard to believe that it's been nearly 30 years since Chucky first terrified moviegoers in Child's Play. Since then the films have generated millions in worldwide box-office revenue. Now Chucky's back with more scores to settle in his trademark twisted style, and you can bet he won't stop until he gets his revenge."

Welcome back, Chucky!
