Alright, I’m not sure how much genre flare this project I’m about to tell you about will carry with it but I’m going to go ahead and throw caution to the wind!

Said project is based on a Charles Yu novel called HOW TO LIVE SAFELY IN A SCIENCE FICTIONAL UNIVERSE. Ever hear of it? Well Chris Columbus has. According to The Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker’s production company 1492 Pictures has just snatched up the rights to HOW TO LIVE SAFELY IN A SCIENCE FICTIONAL UNIVERSE and let’s just say they’re wasting no time in moving this one.

Columbus and fellow producers Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe have already tapped Brendan Bellomo with the task of directing. Released in in September 2010, HOW TO LIVE SAFELY IN A SCIENCE FICTIONAL UNIVERSE was named one of Time’s Top 10 Fiction Books of 2010 and was listed in the New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2010, among other honors.

The novel centers on a time travel machine repairman — also named Charles Yu — who has spent the past 10 years traveling back and forth in time in search of his father, who has disappeared. When the fictional Yu falls into a time loop he must find a way to change the future.

So there you have it folks. As I mentioned I’m not sure how much this one will touch upon our beloved genre but I suppose time will tell. With a director already on board HOW TO LIVE SAFELY IN A SCIENCE FICTIONAL UNIVERSE should be moving along relatively quickly so be sure to check back soon for any updates.
