Chris Evans hasn’t talked to Marvel about an Avengers reunion

Chris Evans says reports of Marvel bringing back The Avengers is fresh news to him but he might consider returning if the material is strong.

Chris Evans, Captain America, return

Avengers assemble! Orrrrr maybe not. When word began circulating that Marvel was looking to reunite The Avengers for future projects, a select group of the beloved MCU team started chiming in on the possibilities. Now joining Scarlett Johansson in the skepticism is Avengers star Chris Evans, who became an instant MCU favorite when he first played Captain America in 2011.

Chris Evans recently told The View that all of the rumors around an Avengers reunion may just be that: based on nothing. “You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me…I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting [Robert] Downey [Jr.] and [Chris] Hemsworth and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!” For her part, Johansson’s stance on being unsure of the team getting back together comes primarily due to Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow dying in Avengers: Endgame.

As far as how much he actually knows of a potential reassembling of The Avengers, Chris Evans reiterated that he is as in the dark as the rest of the cast. “No one’s spoken to me about it…And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.” So there ya have it, dear readers: Chris Evans is totally ready to play Captain America again! In actuality, the rumor mill is a dangerous place and we should be cautious in getting our hopes up – even if recent box office numbers might indicate that the studio could reasonably be considering an Avengers reunion.

While a proper Avengers reunification could be pulled off if everything aligned as it should, is it really something we want? Or do we just miss the glory days of the MCU? It might just be that we haven’t gotten a truly great string of Marvel movies in far too long. We can pin this on superhero fatigue or poor writing or a lack of characters worth rooting for or any number of other factors. The fact is, Marvel isn’t where it used to be and we shouldn’t have to rely on Captain America and company to rescue them.

Do you want to see Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the original Avengers reunite? Or should Marvel reconsider their future in a different way? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below.
