Chucky kills another Toy Story character on new Child’s Play poster

Two movies with very different approaches to the idea of toys coming to life are set to reach theatres on the same day, as TOY STORY 4 and the CHILD'S PLAY remake are both scheduled for release on June 21st.

The CHILD'S PLAY marketing department is having fun with the fact that these movies share a release date. A few weeks ago, they put together a poster that made it look like their killer doll Chucky had murdered TOY STORY character Woody, and now they've released a poster that shows Chucky roasting part of TOY STORY's wiener dog slinky toy over a campfire.

Directed by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith, the new CHILD'S PLAY stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke, with Mark Hamill providing the voice of Chucky.

Like the original, the remake tells the story of

a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

The major difference this time around is that Chucky is "an obsolete model of the bestselling Buddi doll with a glitch in his chip and the ability to control a vast network of interconnected devices."

Produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith through their company KatzSmith Productions, the new CHILD'S PLAY is being released by MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures through their United Artists Releasing banner.

I probably won't be seeing CHILD'S PLAY or TOY STORY 4 on June 21st, but I'll watch them both sometime down the line.
