Just last month, my man Eric laid out the scoop that we would indeed be getting a “reboot” of the original CHILD’S PLAY. And while I’m not entirely sure a retooled Chucky is necessary, his creator, writer/director Don Mancini, seems to think the timing is ideal. In a recent interview, he was very adamant about making our favorite killer doll scary again and much less comedic. Smart move, I say. Here are a bunch of other brand new tidbits that Mancini revealed regarding the remade Chucky:
“It’s a remake, but there are a lot of new things in it. None of the details of the murders in the first movie will be repeated. All of the set pieces are going to be completely brand new, and we’re going to do a slight re-design on Chucky himself, although Brad Dourif will absolutely be the voice of Chucky, and will once again play Charles Lee Ray in the flesh. And we’re giving him more to do than he did in the original movie.”
That actually all sounds pretty damn sweet. I think that bringing back Dourif was key. There’s just no way I can picture any other foul-mouthed voice coming out of that Good Guy Doll. I’m definitely willing to give this re-whatever-ing a shot. Just as long as they don’t bring back Catherine Hicks as the mother. Met her once at a convention; kind of a beeyach.
