One of the biggest industry events of the year is CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada. Held every spring by Cinema United (formerly NATO – National Association of Theatre Owners), the event sees all the major studios descend on Caesars Palace in Vegas, where, in the Colosseum, they show new footage to theater owners, teasing the year ahead. It’s steadily become a massive event, as not only is it a chance to see brand new footage, oftentimes long before official trailers even get released, but sometimes big announcements are made, too. Heck, I’ve even been in the room when surprise screenings happened, such as when we were treated to Ghostbusters: Afterlife months before it opened, or the world premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
With that in mind, this is going to be a highly dramatic year, as it happens in the wake of the WB/Paramount merger, with both studios having their own presentations, so there will be a lot of talk about what their future slates will look like. With that in mind, here are some things we expect/hope to see.
The first Resident Evil trailer

The first big panel is from Sony Entertainment, which traditionally always kicks off the convention with a bang. Tonight, many believe we will see the first footage from Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, which is set to release on September 18th. Word has started to leak out that this is like the Fury Road of horror films, and that it’s Cregger’s follow-up to Weapons, one of the biggest hits of 2025. It’s even possible the trailer will bow online around the same time, so keep your browsers locked on JoBlo.
Digger

Tom Cruise has been promoting his new movie’s shovel stunt pretty heavily on his social media, and many believe this is all just a prelude to a big CinemaCon debut for Digger’s first full trailer. At any rate, it’s a safe bet to assume we’ll get the first real look at Cruise in character in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ambitious fall release.
The Odyssey footage

CinemaCon loves Christopher Nolan, and he always makes a point of putting on a huge show for theater owners. It’s likely the convention will coincide with a new trailer revealing more of Nolan’s star-studded epic, with stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and maybe Zendaya on hand.
Avengers: Doomsday

This is one of the big question marks of the convention, as theoretically Disney could use the event to debut footage from Avengers: Doomsday, but it’s also possible that they will wait to release the trailer until The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres next month. My feeling is they will show it to us, but it won’t go online until next month.
The next James Bond?

This one is a huge long shot, but what if Amazon/MGM used their panel (on Wednesday night) to announce the casting of James Bond? Lots of rumors have been flying in recent months, and it would certainly be a great way to launch whoever is taking on the part, with director Denis Villeneuve likely to be in town to promote Dune: Part Three at the WB panel. However, it’s also possible that it’s just too early to go that route, with the next Bond movie still about two years away—and that’s if we’re lucky.
