At first glance I didn’t really take much notice to this next news bit but as I thought about it and read into it I can see that this news item might actually be pretty awesome! In the very least I’m sure most of you will appreciate it.
You see according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog the 1970s genre comic series’ CREEPY and EERIE are being lined up for a modern day adaptation in film, television and online content. It seems ICM have just signed New Comic Llc as a client, which happens to be the company behind CREEPY and EERIE. So there’s that connection.
New Comic snatched up the rights to CREEPY and EERIE back in 2007 and have since penned a deal with Dark Horse Comics to release the classic comics in archive volumes. So what exactly are CREEPY and EERIE? Scope out the rundown:
Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie, in Tales of the Crypt fashion, hosted the stories. Creepy focused on standalone stories; Eerie evolved into having continuing stories involving returning characters, such as a cyborg assassin known as Exterminator One, a zombie man named the Spook, and Hunter, a man sentenced to death who kills his jury using the 12 days of Christmas as inspiration.
Sounds awesome to me! Can you guys see the possibilites? Sure if we got a couple movies out of this deal that would be awesome but I think the potential here lies in the television adaptations, which could see a sort of “Tales from the Crypt” tone. Alas similar genre television shows with the same idea haven’t faired too well in recent history so there’s no telling if this would even stick if it does come to fruition.
Mind you no solid projects have been announced but I suspect it’s just a matter of time. When we do hear any updates regarding CREEPY or EERIE we’ll be sure to tell you about them! In the meantime be sure to hit us with your thoughts on this whole thing below.
