Cliff Curtis will play the male lead in The Walking Dead spin-off show

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Hot on the heels of the main character details revealed earlier this week for The Walking Dead's spin-off show (with the working title of Cobalt) comes the news that Cliff Curtis has been cast as the leading man, Sean Cabrera. Sean evidently is a good man who's trying to do right by everyone in his life. That sickly sweet description aside, you may recognize Cliff as the man who was ready to blow Ethan Hawke's face away in a bathtub in TRAINING DAY. No word yet on a leading lady, although it appears that Frank Dillane (HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE) and Alycia Debnam Carey (INTO THE STROM) will be playing siblings Nick and Ashley Tompkins.

Cliff Curtis is about as solid as they come. I've enjoyed his bit parts in films like LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and SUNSHINE and I'm sure he's going to kick some literal and figurative ass in Cobalt. As previously mentioned, the only real concern is whether or not this show will actually stand on its own two feet. It would be all too easy to just rehash events already seen in The Walking Dead with a different cast, but I hope the writers have something truly different in mind.

The Walking Dead: Cobalt looks to hit "small screens" sometime in 2015.
