Nightmare Cinema

We're now just over three weeks away from the release of NIGHTMARE CINEMA, Masters of Horror creator Mick Garris's return to the world of multi-director horror anthologies. This time around Garris has teamed up with Joe Dante, David Slade, Ryuhei Kitamura, and Alejandro Brugués, each of them directing a segment of the upcoming film.

Scripted by Garris, Brugués, Slade, Richard Christian Matheson, Sandra Becerril, and Lawrence C. Connolly, NIGHTMARE CINEMA has the following synopsis:

In this twisted horror anthology, five strangers are drawn to an abandoned theater and forced to watch their deepest and darkest fears play out before them. Lurking in the shadows is the Projectionist, who preys upon their souls with his collection of disturbing films. As each reel spins its sinister tale, the characters find frightening parallels to their own lives.

Good Deed Entertainment will be releasing the film in theatres and on VOD on June 21st.

In anticipation of this release, Good Dead has put two clips from NIGHTMARE CINEMA online, offering a preview of the segments directed by Kitamura and Slade. These clips are embedded below.

Up first is the clip from Kitamura's segment Mashit, and I'm now especially hyped to see this part of the movie, as the clip shows a nun and a priest arming themselves to go into battle against a group of blade-wielding children. I can't wait to see how this sequence turns out.

Presented in black and white, the clip from Slade's This Way to Egress is very odd and creepy.

NIGHTMARE CINEMA stars Elizabeth Reaser, Annabeth Gish, Maurice Bernard, Richard Chamberlain, Sarah Elizabeth Withers, and Zarah Mahler, with Mickey Rourke as the host known as The Projectionist.

In addition to Kitamura's Mashit and Slade's This Way to Egress, NIGHTMARE CINEMA consists of Brugués's The Thing in the Woods, Dante's Mirari, and Garris's Dead.

Garris produced the film with Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, and Joe Russo.
