Clive barks at Lionsgate

We all now the story by now. Ryuhei Kitamura’s adaptation of Clive Barker’s MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN had a great big ball of buzz surrounding it last winter and spring, and then fell victim to a release date f*ck-about due to a regime change at Lionsgate, which is never good for well-budgeted niche flicks. Eventually it was dumped into dollar-theaters, where it made, according to MTV, a grand total of $83,361. While this was happening, Barker was making his displeasure vocal. Now that the dust has settled… well, he’s still not happy. In the least.

In an interview with MTV Movies Blog, Barker calls Lionsgate chief Joe Drake “small-minded” and a “nobody.”

He goes on to say: “This is all about ego, and though I mourn the fact that ‘Midnight Meat Train’ was never given its chance in theaters, it’s a beautifully stylish, scary movie, and it isn’t going anywhere. People will find it, and whether they find it in midnight shows or they find it on DVD, they’ll find it, and in the end the Joe Drakes of the world will disappear.”

Ouchy! Guess we won’t see any more Barker stories over at the ‘Gate, eh?

Did any of you kids get a chance to see the flick? If so, let us know where and what you thought of it, as well info like audience reaction, attendance, etc… Let’s prove Lionsgate wrong on this one!

They’ve also deprived us of valuable Leslie Bibb, dammit!
