A couple days ago, RLJE Films unveiled the trailer for director Richard Stanley's H.P. Lovecraft adaptation COLOR OUT OF SPACE, a movie our own Chris Bumbray has given a 7/10 review. Speaking with ComingSoon, producers Daniel Noah and Elijah Wood of SpectreVision revealed that they're hoping COLOR OUT OF SPACE is just the first in a series of Lovecraft adaptations their company will be working on. They said they're trying to "build out a Lovecraft universe" consisting of at least three films, and are in the early stages of developing an adaptation of the author's story THE DUNWICH HORROR.

First published in 1929, THE DUNWICH HORROR centers on

Wilbur Whateley, son of a deformed albino mother and an unknown father, and the strange events surrounding his birth and precocious development. Wilbur matures at an abnormal rate, reaching manhood within a decade–all the while indoctrinated him into dark rituals and witchcraft by his grandfather.

There's no word on who may be writing or directing the adaptation, but Stanely had expressed interest in that particular story to ComingSoon four years ago. He said that when choosing which Lovecraft story to bring to the screen it was a toss-up for him between COLOR OUT OF SPACE and THE DUNWICH HORROR.

Personally I’d love to see the Whatleys brought onscreen one day, as a kind of proper backwoods degenerate, GREAT GOD PAN crossed with the TEXAS CHAINSAW family, type of way that you would imagine."

We'll keep you updated on THE DUNWICH HORROR as that project moves forward. In the meantime, COLOR OUT OF SPACE is scheduled to reach theatres on January 24, 2020.

Starring Nicolas Cage, COLOR OUT OF SPACE tells the following story:

After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farmstead, Nathan Gardner and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a technicolor nightmare.

Cage is joined in the cast by Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight, with Q'orianka Kilcher, and Tommy Chong.

The film was financed by Ace Pictures. Noah and Wood produced alongside Lisa Whalen and Josh C. Waller. Johnny Chang, Peter Wong, Timur Bekbosunov, Emma Lee, Stacy Jorgensen, Elisa Lleras, and Michael M. McGuire served as executive producers.
