The first trailer for AMC's Preacher premiered last week to mostly positive reactions, however many fans of the critically acclaimed comic book series are a little concerned that the small screen adaptation from Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin might be taking too many liberties with the source material. Granted it was a short first look at the project, but there was almost no sign of any of the supernatural elements from the comics.
Preacher co-creator Garth Ennis has been out promoting his new romance comic A Train Called Love, and during a conversation with ComicBook.com, Ennis shared his thoughts on the first trailer, as well as the fan responses to it.
I never really look at that sort of stuff [online reactions] because it's not my department, but I'm told lots of people are talking about the trailer- so great news for the guys pushing the show. I did hear that Amazon sold out of book one, which is great (so long as they had more than half a dozen copies in stock)…I'm delighted with [the trailer]. I like Jesse's grim dialogue taking you through it, and his explosion into violence. And Cassidy's little moment at the end is the icing on the cake…I've seen the pilot, which I think is excellent – the trailer hits just the right note…They've added a good deal to the basic plot of Preacher, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the results.
The part about adding "a good deal to the basic plot" may have made me cringe a bit, but I'm still extremely excited that a Preacher adaptation is actually happening, and I'll definitely be checking it out when it debuts on AMC in mid-2016.
