Conan director Marcus Nispel to tackle the comic adaptation of Hack/Slash

Marcus Nispel, director of the paint-by-numbers CONAN THE BARBARIAN reboot is set to direct the comic adaptation of Hack/Slash.

The Image comic, created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli, centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who embodies the stereotypical “lone surviving girl” of every horror movie you’ve ever seen.

However, instead of surviving just to be a broken down nutcase in a psych ward, Cassie becomes a vigilante who turns the tables on the slasher killers and killing them instead. Traveling with her protector, a muscle-bound bad ass named Vlad (codename: Hack) the duo dish out death at every turn, killing off villainous serial murderers in the vein of Jason, Freddy, and Michael Myers.

I love the premise of the comic, although I’ve never read it. What I don’t love is Marcus Nispel. He can capture some nice-looking visuals, but that’s about it. I know some people dug the Conan reboot “for what it’s worth,” but it was just a pointless mess to me.

However, I did enjoy Nispel’s work on THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake, so perhaps this could be a perfect set up for him. Let’s hope they go for a hard R and take this project into the realm of cool instead of the realm of PG-13 celluloid death.
