Disney announced during its Upfront presentation today that Conan O’Brien will be returning to host the Oscars in 2027. This will mark the comedian’s third year in a row as host of the awards show.
Conan O’Brien Back as Oscars Host
This will be the 99th Academy Awards Ceremony, and the show will air live on ABC and Hulu on March 27, 2027, at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
In a statement, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich said, “Conan has created remarkable energy around the Oscars. His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year.“
Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan will also return as producers for the fourth year in a row, with Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney back for the third year in a row. Sweeney will also be a writer. Kapoor and Mullan shared their own statement, “[O’Brien] brings that signature humor everyone loves, along with a real warmth and generosity that carry through the entire show. He’s a true creative partner, someone we trust completely, and someone who makes the whole process genuinely fun, both behind the scenes and onstage. We’re incredibly grateful to keep building this together and can’t wait to share what’s next.“
Film Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Lynette Howell Taylor added, “They are an incredible team and have produced such captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows over the last two years. We are so grateful for their ongoing partnership as we honor our global film community — and we look forward to Conan superbly leading the celebration with his brilliance and humor.“
Who Has Hosted the Oscars the Most?
Although O’Brien’s three-peat does place him in a prestigious category of folks who have hosted multiple Academy Awards ceremonies, he’s nowhere near the top.
Off the top of my head, I probably would have guessed that Billy Crystal was the most prolific Oscar host, but that honour actually belongs to Bob Hope. The acclaimed entertainer hosted a whopping 19 times, beginning with the 12th Academy Awards Ceremony in 1940. He returned off and on (sometimes with a co-host) until the 50th Academy Awards Ceremony in 1978.
