No, not that red-haired freak on late-night television – Conan the Barbarian! According to Variety today, Millennium Films – the people behind the upcoming asskicking festival known as RAMBO IV – picked up the rights to all things Conan and are set to make a series of films based on the loincloth wearing, sword-swinging badboy.
After seven years of development hell at Warner Bros., which saw people like the Wachowski Bros, Robert Rodriguez, and even original CONAN director John Milius take hacks at the script, the Barbarian moves to a company that fully intends to put him straight in front of the camera, with an eye toward getting started in Spring ‘08.
Apparently, Boaz Yakin (who has as bizarre a filmography as one man can muster) was the last person to write a draft, but the article doesn’t say whether or not his will be the one used, since he wrote it when the property was at Warner Bros. (Most likely it will be thrown out, if not beaten and humiliated first.)
The question remains whether or not audiences will care much about this flick – since Millennium is basically betting (a lot) on the brand name doing all the work, in addition to whatever interest is left over from 300 in partially nude buff dudes kicking each other’s asses.
