Cool Horror Videos: Scenes from The Shining recreated in LEGO

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Since director Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's DOCTOR SLEEP, a sequel to THE SHINING, is now in theatres, today seemed like the perfect day to share a cool horror video that was crafted by THE SHINING fan Wim Laroy.

Using stop motion animation, about 10,000 LEGO pieces, and around 50 to 60 hours of free time, Laroy has crafted a recreation of several of the most famous moments from Stanley Kubrick's 1980 version of THE SHINING.

Scenes brought to LEGO life in the video embedded below include the drive to the Overlook Hotel, the elevator blood flood, Danny's encounter with the Grady twins in the hallway, Jack's interaction with the woman in room 237, and of course the hedge maze chase.

Plus, LEGO Dick Hallorann proves to be just as unlucky as Scatman Crothers' Dick Hallorann was in the Kubrick film.

Laroy said that making the stop motion short mostly came down to

choosing the right pieces. I made this movie only with pieces I already had in my collection, so I had to do with just what I had laying around. For instance, the famous carpet pattern in the hallway could have been more realistic, but with the pieces I had, it became a little more abstract. I went with clay for the bloody elevator scene also because I do not have thousands of red translucent pieces.”

Laroy's "The Shining LEGO" is fun, kind of cute, and definitely cool, so give it a look:
