Way back in April, I first introduced you guys to a new horror indie on the chopping block called CORNERED! (yes, the “!” is a part of the title). In case you don’t recall, the flick stars James Duvall (who played Frank the Bunny in DONNIE DARKO) and the Gut-Man himself, Steve Guttenberg! And to me, the real cool thing about CORNERED! involves the G-Man… because he’s playing the killer! I don’t know why, but I seriously crave the sight of the guy from POLICE ACADEMY and 3 MEN AND A BABY hacking teenagers to pieces! Anyone agree? I mean, check him out up top. He actually looks pretty damn scary.
I also actually like CORNDERED!’s fun-sounding slasher plot: A bunch of liquor store employees and their friends gather for a regular poker game, while a murderer who tortures his victims and steals surveillance-camera tapes of his exploits is on the loose. The group fantasize out loud about apprehending the villain and collecting a $500,000 reward—but then the madman invades the store, traps them inside and goes after them with assorted butcher’s tools purloined from the basement.
Not too shabby, right? I’ve got a quote from the G-Man regarding his role right here: “It was fun, creative and it was something I got to do that I have never done before.” Basically, that’s everything I’ve been saying. Here’s what director Daniel Maze has to say: “First and foremost, viewers must be able to enjoy a movie, regardless of gore or dark undertones. That’s why we added unexpected humor to CORNERED! and married it with a strong plot.”
In addition to Guttenberg and Duvall, the flick also stars Peter Story, Elizabeth Nicole (below), and Eduardo Antonio Garcia. For more info as well as a killer trailer, you can check out the official website here.
