Back towards the beginning of October we told you
about an intriguing little project called THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS. You guys rememeber that? Of course you do! How could you forget about a flick about murderous muppets?!
Well now that we’re all caught up allow me to inform you all that THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS may have it’s first cast member in the form of Cameron Diaz! According to NY Mag’s Vulture blog the actress has been offered a lead role in the dark muppet movie and her camp is very excied to give it a look. Nice!
Happytime takes place in a world where humans and puppets coexist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of 1980s children’s TV show “The Happytime Gang” begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet — with a drinking problem, no less — takes the case with his former human partner.Think Avenue Q meets L.A. Confidential.
Vulture also points out that THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS won’t be your average muppet movie, citing a spy close to production: “This is definitely not a PG-13 movie. They’re not fucking around with this: It’s ‘Go big or go home.’
Well damn… Brian Henson is set to direct THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS from a script by Todd Berger. You can bet your ass we’ll be keeping our eyes on this one so be sure to keep it here for more on THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS as we hear it.
