I, Tonya Craig Gillespie Margot Robbie Banner

Back in March, we brought you word that Margot Robbie will star as Tonya Harding in I, TONYA, a biopic about the disgraced figure skater, and now Variety is reporting that the project has found a director in the form of Craig Gillespie.

Gillespie is definitely familiar with telling true stories on the big screen, as he was behind the camera for the biographical sports drama MILLION DOLLAR ARM and the historical disaster movie THE FINEST HOUR, but the filmmaker also helmed the critically-acclaimed dramedy LARS AND THE REAL GIRL and the 2011 FRIGHT NIGHT remake. Gillespie will be directing I, TONYA from a script by Steven Rogers (LOVE THE COOPERS, P.S. I LOVE YOU), who wrote it after doing extensive interviews with both Harding and her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, however there's no word on when production might kick off on the planned film.

This should be a big summer for Robbie. The actress has THE LEGEND OF TARZAN out on Juy 1st, while SUICIDE SQUAD will arrive in theaters on August 5th.
