Crazy Remake

When will the remake craze of classic horror movies stop? Today THE
WICKER MAN joined the list of scheduled remakes, and Fangoria got
heads up from writer Scott Kosar (TCM remake, AMITYVILLE HORROR remake)
that he’s working on yet another remake, this time of George
Romero’s THE CRAZIES!



Now, THE CRAZIES definately wasn’t Romero’s best film, in truth it
probably ranks among his worse (but the guy’s a genius, so even his worse
are great), yet the fact that they’re remaking it still kind of ticks me
off. I guess DAWN OF THE DEAD was just too damn successful.



Well one good thing about this deal, Paramount is in talks with
director Brad Anderson (THE MACHINIST) to helm the remake. At least they’re
not just handing this to some schmoe who’s only background consists of
commercials and P. Diddy music videos- they’re scoopin’ up one talented
mofo!



Kosar also shed some light on why he’s not involved with the upcoming
TCM prequel:
“It’s unfortunate because they want to do a prequel
based on the origins of the family, and since I created every character
in the remake except for Leatherface, I thought I was the right guy to
tell the story. And they felt that too. I was their first choice, but I
asked for more money than they were willing to pay.”



And who says Money isn’t the reason remakes are so hot right
now? Thanks for the gasoline to fule our rage towards remakes Kosar!
Appreciate it! Well not to worry, as he claims THE CRAZIES is going to be
his final remake gig:


“I don’t plan on doing another horror film
remake. Once I’m done with THE CRAZIES, there are a couple of books and
an original idea that I want to pursue.”


Yeah, stick to the ‘original idea’ plan there buddy. Contribute something new and fresh to the genre, not something old and rehashed! More on THE CRAZIES remake as it develops.
