CW releases new promo for historic DC superhero Black Lightning

Black Lightning is a historic character, as he was the first black superhero to headline his own DC comic-book series. So it's nice to see him get his due on the CW – which in many fan's eyes – does a better job with superheroes than the DCEU does. Even if you disagree (I can't say, as I don't really watch the CW DC shows), I think the trailer embedded above looks pretty fun regardless, if a bit cheesy.

One thing I find interesting is it is not telling an origin story, but instead focusing on a sort of "resurrection" of the character, as he had been retired for some time (working as a principle at a high school). This, on top of being married with a family at the start, gives him a more mature dynamic that you don't often see in superheroes (outside maybe The Fantastic Four). That fact alone makes this superhero show stand out from the CW pack.

So, any BLACK LIGHTNING fans out there? And if so, what did you think of the trailer? Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile, BLACK LIGHTNING will shock the CW January 16th.
