Based on a comic book from the Italian independent publisher Sergio Bonelli, the live-action English-language action thriller Dampyr has now received a digital release courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and you can check it out on Amazon at THIS LINK. To help you decide whether or not Dampyr is a movie you’d like to check out, we have the trailer embedded above.

The Dampyr comic book was created by Mauro Boselli and Maurizio Colombo, and the duo also crafted the story for the film adaptation. Boselli then wrote the screenplay with Giovanni Masi, Alberto Ostini, and Mauro Uzzeo. Directed by first-time filmmaker Riccardo Chemello, the film has the following synopsis: Based on the popular comic book series, DAMPYR follows Harlan Draka, a con artist. Haunted by nightmares, Harlan Draka wanders through the war-torn Balkan countryside, making money out of ridding superstitious villagers of imaginary monsters. But after being hired by soldiers who are under attack by actual vampires, Harlan discovers the truth: he’s a Dampyr, half-human and half-vampire. While trying to stop a Master of the Night and his undead army, Harlan will have to learn to manage his newfound powers and uncover his origins.

Wade Briggs (His Dark Materials) stars as Harlan Draka and is joined in the cast by Stuart Martin, Frida Gustavsson, Sebastian Croft, David Morrissey, Radu Andrei Micu, Ionut Grama, Luke Roberts, Florin Fratila, Madalina Bellariu Ion, Andreea Coff, Alice Cora Mihalache, and Alexandra Poiana.

Before making his feature directorial debut with this film, Chemello directed commercials for the likes of Red Bull, Disney, and Armani. Dampyr was produced by Roberto Proia, Vincenzo Sarno, and Andrea Sgaravatti. Gianluca Leurini served as executive producer.

According to Variety, the plan is for this movie to be the first installment in what will be known as the Bonelli Cinematic Universe – basically, Italy’s version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
