Dark Knight envelops Hall

Who would’ve expected that one of the most anticipated movies of next year – hell, of ANY year – would star both Eric Roberts and Anthony Michael Hall? Not me. (Unless it was a movie on Sci Fi channel called MANATEE! – in which case I’d be overwhelmingly excited)

But to what I assume is everyone’s surprise, Hall has announced that he’s in the Chris Nolan-directed Batman sequel, THE DARK KNIGHT. Not only that, apparently his role is a pretty significant one.

Says Hall: “I signed a confidentiality agreement, and I can’t say which part I’m playing because it affects the story. I can’t give away the suspense — it’s a $200 million surprise, and I don’t want to be the guy to ruin it.”

A $200 million surprise?! Holy cranapple, that’s gotta be a big one. I’ve seen $190 million surprises, but I guess those will look like roasted turds compared to this one. Can he be implying that a new villain is being set up? I had been assuming that the 3rd installment would have Harvey Dent/Two-Face as its main baddie, if not The Joker as well. Will Hall be The Riddler?! (my instinct says no, but Nolan hasn’t shied away from unusual casting choices before)

Hall joined KNIGHT’S production in London during the first week of shooting, then went back to Canada to work on his t.v. show THE DEAD ZONE. He says he will return to THE DARK KNIGHT in August…

Not quite sure if Rutger Hauer is returning as the slimy Mr. Earle, but if he does then the B-movie Gods will surely be slapping each other high-fives in celebration of sneaking a handful of their most treasured and underappreciated thespians into a movie of such hugeness.
