It’s hard to believe that in this day in age of DVD, Blu-ray, Digital Copies, and illegal Internet downloads, not to mention Cable, Satellite, and everything in between, that there are still movies out there that haven’t been released in some format or another since it’s heyday on VHS.
The made for TV horror flick DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW is the perfect example of this kind of bizarre occurrence. Premiering on television in October of 1981, SCARECROW went a little something like this: A retarded man is unjustly accused of attacking a young girl. Disguised as a scarecrow, he hides in a cornfield, only to be hunted down and shot. Later, after it is revealed he saved the girl from a vicious dog attack, members of the search posse are killed by a mysterious scarecrow.
And this is the first time it’s hitting DVD? What’s wrong with the world today? According to Horror Yearbook, the new DVD will be released sometime this October, some 29 years after its original television release. About flippin’ time!
Directed by Frank De Felitta and starring Charles Durning and Larry Drake, the film obviously has a unique and select union of followers, as I’m sure there are only a handful of people out there who have actually seen the flick… and now, the rest of us will be able to appreciate it’s awesomeness.
Stick around for that release date, and the DVD cover art. After all these years, it better be cool!
THE DARK KNIGHT’s Maggie Gyllenhaal!
