The first trailer for DARK WATER, Buena Vista’s remake of the Japanese horror film, has hit the net just a few days after the first still (right) peaked out its pretty head. All I can say is shite! This is one mean, dark, creepy looking SOB. Of course, you’d expect no less from Hideo Nakata (RINGU) who directed the original and wrote the screenplay for the remake. The tale follows a mother and daughter who retreat to a run down apartment building in order to escape a nasty custody battle. Looking for quiet, they instead find the ghost of a young girl whose family used to live there.
Sporting a cast that features Jennifer Connelly, Shelley DuVall, Ariel Gade, Tim Roth, John C. Reilly, Camryn Manheim, Pete Postlethwaite, Dougray Scott and Perla Haney-Jardine, DARK WATER is yet another indication that Hollywood is finally starting to take genre films seriously. Granted it seems to help if the flick has already cleaned up in another country, but let’s take what we can get.
