Netflix has revealed a new David Fincher noir docuseries titled Voir. Details about the project are scarce, but according to the streamer’s Twitter account, Fincher will executive produce a new docuseries of visual essays, celebrating cinema. Voir is set to premiere at AFI Fest and is coming soon to Netflix.

Fincher has a sweet setup up over at Netflix after delivering hit after hit for the streaming platform. To date, he’s directed two episodes of the outstanding series House of Cards, executive produced and directed seven episodes of the Emmy nominated Mindhunter, executive produced the animated series Love, Death and Robots, and helmed the 2-time Oscar-winning drama, Mank. He’s also planning on reuniting with his Seven screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for Killer, which is based on the Alexis Nolent graphic novel series. Michael Fassbender is expected to star in the adaptation, which revolves around an elite assassin who suffers a psychological crisis as he attempts to remove himself from the political ramifications his killings have caused.

It’s been 25 years since Fincher and Walker joined forces for Seven, a dark and twisted film that remains a cornerstone of pop culture to this very day. The thought of them teaming up for another excursion into a gritty crime noir should excite fans of the genre to no end, and worry those who found Seven to be the stuff of nightmares.

In addition to his work on celebrated feature films, Fincher also directed several music videos for musical artists such as A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Madonna, Billy Idol, Paula Abdul, Steve Winwood, Aerosmith, and more. Fincher’s unique film style has become the stuff of legend since movies like Alien 3, Seven, and The Game put him on the map. How the new David Fincher noir docuseries plans on celebrating the genre remains to be seen, though I’m certain he’s the right person for the job.
