David Harbour: Stranger Things season 4 will have Indiana Jones type action

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

David Harbour's character Jim Hopper had a bit of a Magnum, P.I. vibe to him in the third season of Netflix's Stranger Things, and it sounds like he'll be emulating a different '80s icon when the next season hits. Speaking with Deadline, Harbour said season 4 will be

very epic and very big, in a Stranger Things way. There's monsters, there's horror, there's scares, there's also great, Indiana Jones type action."

That sounds awesome to me, and I can definitely see Hopper being the Indiana Jones type. Especially given the situation we'll find him in when this season begins. Although season 3 ended with something of a cliffhanger when it came to the fate of Hopper, Netflix and Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers have been very open about the fact that Hopper is alive and being held captive by the Russian military. Hopper is

imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.

Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.

Harbour has previously said that season 4 will be digging into Hopper's back story, and that's something he reiterated during the conversation with Deadline:

We get to see some of Hopper's really deep back story … he's painted in a bit of a darker palette, and he's able to express some of these really deep things in him which we haven't really known yet. It's been hinted at, but we haven't really known."

Stranger Things season 4 had been filming in Lithuania for a couple weeks, with filming also set to take place in the show's home base of Atlanta, when the pandemic caused production to shut down. There's no word yet on when the show will be able to resume filming.

In addition to Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Brett Gelman, and Maya Hawke are also back for season 4.
