David Lynch exits Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival series

Twin Peaks David Lynch

Last month there were rumblings that creator David Lynch and Showtime weren't seeing eye-to-eye on his contract for the planned Twin Peaks revival series, but now it looks like it is official: Lynch has left the project and won't be directing the episodes.

Yesterday Lynch tweeted that Showtime hasn't pulled the plug on Twin Peaks and it is still very much alive at the network, but this weekend he started to call the actors to let them know he won't be helming the nine-episode series.

David Lynch on why he decided to leave Twin Peaks:

After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

Lynch also tweeted that he loves "the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently." Showtime has released a statement about Lynch exiting the series, and the network says they are still trying to work out a deal with the director.

We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.

Do you think Showtime will be able to reach a deal with Lynch? And would you be interested in checking out a David Lynch-less Twin Peaks series?

Showtime's Twin Peaks is still expected to air sometime in 2016.
