Those looking forward to director David Slade's adaptation of author Norman Patridge's horror novel Dark Harvest are about to feel the roots of disappointment burrow into their insides and squeeze like the tentacles of a saucy hentai fantasy, because MGM has recently redated the project for a September 24, 2021 debut. The move will find DARK HARVEST going up against Paramount's new MY LITTLE PONY movie as well as an untitled event film from Universal.

The previously-announced project will creep in as the first big screen endeavor from MGM Film Group Chairman Michael De Luca, which has Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl producing via Matt Tolmach Productions. The film is being written by Michael Gilio, who will also assume the role of executive producer.

The story of DARK HARVEST is set on Halloween in 1963 and centers around an enigmatic character named October Boy, aka Ol’ Hacksaw Face, aka Sawtooth Jack. Whatever the name, everybody in this small Midwestern town knows who he is. He rises from the cornfields every Halloween, a butcher knife in his hand, and makes his way toward town, where gangs of teenage boys eagerly await their chance to confront the legendary nightmare. Both the hunter and the hunted, the October Boy is the prize in an annual rite of life and death. Pete McCormick knows that killing the October Boy is his one chance to escape a dead-end future in this one-horse town. He’s willing to risk everything, including his life, to be a winner for once. But before the night is over, Pete will look into the saw-toothed face of horror–and discover the terrifying true secret of the October Boy.

Damn you, coronavirus, I was really looking forward to this one. Granted it's not like the film is going away entirely or anything, but still, damn you, damn you to Hell. Heh. Sorry. It's been a bit of a rough time here in the old bullpen for the past few weeks. My head is positively spinning from all the projects that are getting delayed and so forth. Thankfully, DARK HARVEST is still coming our way, and I can't wait to check it out.

We'll be sure to bring you any updates as DARK HARVEST continues to grow.
