Time to add another Frankenstein flick to the quarry…
Variety is reporting Fox has resurrected a moribund, untitled Frankenstein flick that they’ve assigned CHRONICLE scribe Max Landis to write. No director has yet been attached, but word is David Yates (HARRY POTTER 5-7) and Paul Greengrass (GREEN ZONE, UNITED 93) are being sought after. Ron Howard was apparently in the running at first, but with THE DARK TOWER on his plate, in addition to the Formula-1 racing flick RUSH he recently signed on to, he’s likely out as a contender.
As you may recall, this project is just one in a spate of different Frankenstein flicks currently in development. There’s Matt Reeves’ THE DARK ENDEAVOR, as well as THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY, I, FRANKENSTEIN, Sony’s FRANKENSTEIN rehash, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s long-scheduled Doug Jones starring take on the classic monster tale. Now that’s a lot of mothaf*ckin’ run for a character first introduced back in 1931.
As for Max Landis, he also wrote the “Deer Woman” episode of “Masters of Horror,” as well as the “Something With Bite” episode of “Fear Itself.” This here Frankenstein flick will mark his second feature script behind the 2012 Josh Trank film CHRONICLE.
So, given the current popularity of good ol’ bolt-neck, which of these projects excites you most? If it’s this particular movie, who should get the directing gig: Yates or Greengrass? Or should someone else entirely?
