del Toro NOT directing Haters

As you may recall, last week I brought you the news that Guillermo del Toro had added yet another project to his ever-growing slate of films, this one entitled HATERS based on the David Moody book about a society suddenly immersed in a series of violently random attacks.

It was being bandied about that del Toro had the intention of directing this film, but now he’s come forth to clear up that rumor, as well as dispel any speculation that his next picture after HELLBOY II is set in stone:

“No… the reality is that I’m producing ‘Haters’. I’m not directing it. That was just rumors. Really, after Hellboy 2, I have no idea what’s next. If anyone has a movie for me, let me know (jokingly). But there is nothing official, I’d love to [direct it]. But again, the reality is that I’m finishing the movie [Hellboy 2] in July and then I have no idea. Perhaps there will be a surprise. It’s like John Lennon said: ‘Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.’ When I finished ‘Cronos’ I thought I was going to do 4 movies and none of them have been made!”

So there you have it. This could change, since it’s obvious the man has a lot of options and is just waiting for the right moment to choose his next project.

Of course, he could also be waiting for a phone call offering him the reins to a certain visionary, Middle Earth-set fantasy epic. Just throwing that out there…
