Demonic trailer: Neill Blomkamp horror film reaches theatres in August

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

With his new film Demonic, writer/director Neill Blomkmap is shifting out of the sci-fi genre he's known for working in (his previous films are District 9, Elysium, and Chappie) and into the world of supernatural horror. Demonic is set to receive a theatrical, On Demand, and digital release on August 20th, and you can see the new trailer in the embed above!

Demonic has the following synopsis:

A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed in this horror-thriller from director Neill Blomkamp.

The film stars Carly Pope (Arrow), Chris William Martin (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem), Michael J. Rogers (Hellraiser: Hellseeker), Terry Chen (Almost Famous), Nathalie Boltt (Riverdale), and newcomer Andrea Agur.

Pope, who made her theatrical feature debut in the 1998 thriller Disturbing Behavior, previously worked with Blomkamp on Elysium and multiple shorts, while Boltt had a role in District 9.

Not only does Demonic have our attention simply because it's a horror project from Neill Blomkamp, but it also has a very interesting technical aspect: "The film uses a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects). The amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film." So there's another reason to keep your eyes peeled for this one. I honestly don't know what the benefit of this technology is, but I'll gladly check the movie out to see what this is all about.

Blomkamp produced Demonic with Mike Blomkamp. Alastair Burlingham served as executive producer.

Before this trailer, promotional materials released for Demonic included 8mm behind-the-scenes footage, a teaser trailer, and a UK teaser – and you can see all of those videos embedded below.
