If there’s one thing to look forward to in 2010, it’s the recurring trend of more R rated horror movies and less PG-13 kiddie horror flicks. There are still a few weaksauce horror being released, but nothing compared to previous years. This decade’s moving in the right direction already!
Case in point, the MPAA has just slapped new ratings on two upcoming horror flicks, both of which receiving beautiful R ratings. First up, THE DESCENT PART 2, earning it’s R for strong bloody horror violence, grisly images, terror and language. Looks like PART 2 is rated R for all the right reasons, and just about on par with its predecessor. The only thing missing at this point is the film’s North American release date.
The other film is THE REEDS, one of the entries in this year’s After Dark Films 8 Films to Die For, which scored it’s R rating for violence, language and some drug use. Nice! While PART 2’s reason sound a little more fun, it’s nice that the MPAA has warned people that if violence and language isn’t enough, there’s drug use!!! Oh no, not drug use!!!
Two films, two R ratings, one happy camper (me). Looks like Xmas hit early this year thanks to the MPAA… THE REEDS hits theaters January 29, 2010.
