DeWanda Wise Brie Larson Captain Marvel

2017 was quite the year for DeWanda Wise, who broke out with recurring roles on Underground and Shots Fired as well the lead role on Netflix's She's Gotta Have it, the television adaptation of Spike Lee's first movie, but Wise has kicked off the new year with a bang by landing quite the plum role in an upcoming Marvel movie.

Deadline reports that DeWanda Wise is set to star alongside Brie Larson in CAPTAIN MARVEL. Exactly who Wise will be playing isn't known at this time, but it will mark the actresses first major movie role. The upcoming Marvel film follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot involved in an accident with an alien which "imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight." During San Diego Comic-Con last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that CAPTAIN MARVEL would take place in the 1990's and find Carol Danvers battling the Skrulls, a race of alien shapeshifters. Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his role as Nick Fury, with Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn also set to star in the film. It looks like CAPTAIN MARVEL is shaping up very nicely indeed. Can't wait!

CAPTAIN MARVEL will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
