Just days after the sad news of Diane Keaton’s passing, AMC Theatres has announced that they will be paying special tribute to the legendary actress.  Keaton, of course, was the star of such classics as The Godfather trilogy, RedsLooking for Mr. Goodbar, the Father of the Bride films, The First Wives ClubThe Family Stone, and many more. However, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that two notable movies from her filmography will be screened at certain AMC locations across the country in honor of Keaton — her Oscar-winning Annie Hall and the more recent comedy Something’s Gotta Give.

Keaton passed one month after the film world lost another cinema giant — Robert Redford (whose own All the President’s Men was re-released in theaters). In a critic’s appreciation, THR wrote of Keaton’s death, “another stinging loss to the pantheon of New Hollywood in the decades before the major studios largely stepped away from making movies for grownups.” Other chains may follow AMC’s tribute as several of Keaton’s films have also spiked in iTunes movie rentals. Per THR, “on Monday, Something’s Gotta Give sat at No. 5, followed by Annie Hall at No. 14. Because I Said So, Reds and Baby Boom were also seeing an uptick, underscoring her rich and varied body of work.”

Keaton’s role in Annie Hall marked a defining moment in her career and in American cinema. Directed by Woody Allen, the film was partly inspired by Keaton herself, blending her quirky personality, offbeat humor, and distinctive fashion sense into a character that became iconic. The film was both a critical and commercial success, winning four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Keaton. Her performance was praised for its naturalism and charm, helping redefine what a romantic comedy heroine could be and cementing her as a major star of the 1970s.

More than two decades later, Keaton experienced a career resurgence with Something’s Gotta Give, a romantic comedy written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Starring opposite Jack Nicholson, Keaton played a successful playwright navigating love and aging with warmth and vulnerability. The film earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, which was her first since Annie Hall. Audiences and critics alike celebrated her comedic timing and emotional depth, and the movie became a box office hit.

Screenings start on October 17.
