Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear to join the final season of House of Cards

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After a desperate scramble to salvage the remains of their award-winning political drama, Netflix has landed Academy Award-nominated actors Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear for the final season of HOUSE OF CARDS.

The casting of Lane and Kinnear comes not long after Kevin Spacey, who for the first five seasons portrayed Frank Underwood on the program, was fired from the show after several accounts of sexual misconduct had been raised against him. As Spacey's once brightly-lit star continues to fade, and the creatives behind HOUSE OF CARDS work to distance themselves from the now-tainted actor, fans have been left with no choice but to hope for a satisfying end to the highly-decorated drama. As it stands, Lane and Kinnear will join Robin Wright, as well as Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver for the upcoming sixth and final season.

For the series finale, HOUSE OF CARDS will focus on series main-stay, Claire Underwood, and her rise to the presidency as per the close of the show's fifth season. How the show will manage to explain away Frank's absence is still unknown at this time, though given the context of Spacey's departure from the show, I'm not certain that many people will be upset to see him go.

HOUSE OF CARDS is currently back in production, and is set to announce a premiere date for its final season sometime in the coming months.
