Didn’t see this one coming: Betsy Russell says there were plans for a Saw 8.

UPDATE: The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting got in touch with SAW 3D writer Patrick Melton and asked him what the deal was, here’s his response: “To clarify, Betsy has the story half correct. At one point, we had an idea for two more movies. But after VI opened, we decided to combine everything into one last film, which is SAW 3D. This one is the last shebang!”

Before all this talk of SAW VII being the final film in the franchise there was a lot of speculation as to how far this saga would go. I’m sure you guys remember. Would we be going to eight installments? Or maybe this thing had no ending… The questions just kept rolling in until it was announced that SAW VII would indeed be the final SAW. But do we really believe that?

One person that doesn’t seem ready to admit it’s over is franchise star Betsy Russell (pictured). The actress recently chatted it up with the NY Post’s PopWrap and let loose that there is a concept for SAW 8 but it’s a toss-up as to whether that’ll ever come to be.

“Before we thought it was ending [with ‘Saw 7’], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for ‘Saw 8’]. It’s an amazing story that I would love to see. We want to end near the top, with our integrity in tact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, [‘Saw 8’] will happen.”

I can’t say I’m surprised there’s still a possibility for a SAW 8. I mean… this is Hollywood folks. If the mighty dollar says it is to be then it is to be. Then again the source here is Betsy Russell so you can take that for what it’s worth as well.

In any case SAW VII, presently the final SAW of the franchise, is due to hit theaters on October 29th. We’ll wait to see what happens after that…
