Director Marc Webb says he won’t be back for The Amazing Spider-Man 4

Last month we learned Marc Webb will return for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, however there was no word on if he will also be helming the fourth movie for Sony. It looks like the studio will have to find a new director for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4, because Webb recently revealed to The Daily Beast he'd like to move on to something new after the third Spidey flick.

"I’d like to be involved as a consultant, and I’ve already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I’ve had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it’ll be the time to find something else."

Sony might also need to find a new Spider-Man for the fourth movie. Last year Andrew Garfield said he wasn't sure if he'll be back for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4.

Marc Webb was also asked to share his thoughts on Spider-Man someday appearing with other Marvel characters in the future on the big screen, like The Avengers or Fantastic Four.

"We’re building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven’t seen in other Spider-Man movies—The Sinister Six, Venom, and more. We’d all love to overlap with other studios, but it’s beyond my pay grade."

Webb goes on to say there will be other monsters in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 besides Harry Osborn's Green Goblin.

"Yeah. There will be some "creature of the night" popping up."

I wonder if "creature of the night" could be a tease for Morbius the Living Vampire. With Sony trying to expand Spidey's cinematic universe, you really can't rule anything out at this point.

Is Marc Webb leaving the franchise after THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 a good or bad thing in your opinion? And who would you like to see take over as director for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 will be in theaters on May 2nd, 2014, followed by THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 on June 10th, 2016 and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 on May 4th, 2018.
