Director Yorgos Lanthimos to helm TV series The Man in the Rockefeller Suit

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Oscar nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos has apparently found his post THE FAVOURITE project and it will mark a first for the auteur. Lanthimos will turn his attention to the small screen as he's set to direct and produce a limited series at Searchlight Television. The show will be an adaptation of the David Gilbert novel The Man In The Rockefeller Suit. If you've never heard of the story you're not alone and the tale is decidedly bonkers. The Man In the Rockefeller Suit tells the, "true story of Clark Rockefeller, a gregarious, successful, and mysterious descendant of the Rockefeller clan. When his wife Sandra begins to suspect that Clark isn’t who he says he is, his decades-long web of deception slowly begins to unravel."

Turns out Clark Rockefeller's real name was actually Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter. Going under the guise of Clark Rockefeller, Gerhartsreiter conned his way into various high-end jobs and even his own marriage. I have to say the source material seems right up Lanthimos' alley. He's already given audiences bizarre tales like 2015's THE LOBSTER and Lanthimos is certainly adept at stories of manipulation and deception with last year's THE FAVOURITE.

Although Benedict Cumberbatch was once attached to the title role he has since passed on the project so the hunt is on for a replacement. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Colin Farrell ends up in the running. Farrell already has experience with Lanthimos with his work in the aforementioned THE LOBSTER and 2017's KILLING OF A SACRED DEER. Farrell as a con artist just feels perfect.

What about you guys? Did you dig THE FAVOURITE? How do you feel about Lanthimos turning to television? Who would you like to see play Clark Rockefeller? Let us know in the comments below.
