Set to do box-office battle with Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM is Sam Raimi’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, which Disney has just tagged with a March 8, 2013 release date. Which do you think you’ll be running out to clock first…a sci-fi alien epic or a revisit to Oz?

In many ways it’s a battle of old and new. Not only is Raimi a proven commodity, he’s reimagining an age old classic. Blomkamp’s an up and comer who is literally setting his next film far into the future. I’m kinda torn as to which flick I wanna see first.

As you know, Raimi has cast Mila Kunis (below), Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams as the three dastardly witches. Williams’ character would team up with snake oil salesman James Franco to face off against her evil sisters, played by Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis, in a power struggle for control of the magical land of Oz.

Weisz will play Evanora, a powerful, evil witch who intends to rule the land. She is the sister of Theadora (Kunis) and tries to seduce her to the dark side.

OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL comes out March 8, 2013.
