Disney to kill Bambi’s mom all over again for live-action remake

Bambi, Disney, remake

For the most part, Disney's live-action adaptations of their animated classics have been enormously successful, so I suppose it's only a matter of time before they hit every story in their library. THR has reported that the next Disney classic to receive the live-action treatment will be BAMBI, the 1942 film which told the story of a young fawn named Bambi who learned his place in the forest alongside his two best friends, Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, following the death of his mother.

Disney has tasked Geneva Robertson-Dworet (CAPTAIN MARVEL) and Lindsey Beer (CHAOS WALKING) with penning the script for the live-action remake. Now, I say "live-action," but THR has heard that Disney is looking to employ the same cutting-edge CG technology used for both THE JUNGLE BOOK and THE LION KING for the BAMBI remake. THR also states that Disney isn't looking to force a more epic story into BAMBI, which is on the shorter side as the original only runs 70 minutes. So, it's best to prepare yourself to experience the heart-wrenching death of Bambi's mother all over again, this time in photo-realistic CG.

Disney has a ridiculous amount of live-action adaptations of their animated films on the way, including THE LITTLE MERMAID, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, LILO & STITCH, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, PINOCCHIO, and more. The next film on Disney's live-action slate is MULAN. "When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Chinese Army to defend the country from Huns, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father," reads Disney's synopsis. "She is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. Disguised as a man by the name of Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her innermost strength and embrace her true potential." MULAN will hit theaters on March 27, 2020.
