Rocky III: Sylvester Stallone Revisited

Here on JoBlo Videos, there’s no hiding the fact that we’re massive Sylvester Stallone fans. We love the guy and we figured, with the success of James Bond Revisited, why not give The Italian Stallion himself the same treatment? So welcome to our all-new show, Sylvester Stallone Revisited, where we re-examine all of Sly’s movies, including all the hits, misses, and more!

Rather than go chronologically, we’re approaching his career a little differently to keep things fresh. So, we’re starting with the great ROCKY III, which pitted Rocky against Mr. T’s iconic Clubber Lang. Carl Weather, Talia Shire, Burt Young, and the heartbreaking Burgess Meredith co-star!

In Rocky III, as fans will no doubt recall, Rocky Balboa, the Italian Stallion, is on top of the world, with his fame and fortune assured. But, after a brutal defeat by the fearsome Clubber Lang, and the death of his beloved trainer Mickey, Balboa turns to an unlikely ally, Apollo Creed, to rediscover the “eye of the tiger” and win back his heavyweight title! 

So, why start with Rocky III? Partly because Sly’s own career, at the time, mirrored Rocky’s in the film. He was on top of the world, but had yet to find the elusive non-Rocky hit that would put him on a different plane of stardom. By the end of 1982, he would find that hit with First Blood, while this movie would launch him to box office superstardom!
