David Gordon Green to direct Disneyland movie about building of the park

Disneyland movie, David Gordon Green

From the horrors of Haddenfield to the Happiest Place on Earth. According to Deadline, Halloween director David Gordon Green has been tapped to direct a Disneyland movie about the building of Walt Disney’s iconic theme park.

Cavalry Media spent a year developing a pitch for the Disneyland movie before bringing it to the attention of the studio. The project will be penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who has written Disney projects such as The Jungle Book 2, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, and the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Spiliotopoulos also wrote The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Hercules, and Snake Eyes. The project is being developed for the Disney+ streaming service. Walt Disney purchased a 160-acre site near Anaheim in 1953 with construction beginning the following year. The park opened in 1955 and was unveiled during a special press event that aired on ABC. Over the years, Disneyland has grown to include new attractions and rides, most recently Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Tom Hanks was the most recent actor to play the animation pioneer as he starred in Saving Mr. Banks, a film about the development of Mary Poppins that also starred Emma Thompson.

David Gordon Green’s next film will be Halloween Kills, which takes place immediately after the first film and follows Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) as they leave Michael Myers to burn in the basement of Laurie’s house. Michael naturally escapes and the Strode women join forces with other survivors to form a mob in order to hunt Michael down. Halloween Kills will be released in theaters and on the Peacock streaming service on October 15, 2021. Be sure to check out a review of Halloween Kills from our own JimmyO right here.
